Learn how we can honor our veterans this Veterans Day.
November 11th is Veterans Day, a national holiday that recognizes the brave service and sacrifice of those in the United States Armed Forces. This Veterans Day, make an effort to show our military service members that you care. Here are a couple of suggestions to express your appreciation.
1) Donate
One of the easiest ways to get involved this Veterans Day is by donating to organizations or charities that offer support or services to our veterans. Some of the organizations that are deserving of your financial donations include: Hope for the Warriors, the USO (United Service Organizations), Homes for Our Troops, and Fisher House Foundation. In addition to monetary donations, there are also many charities such as Operation Gratitude that accept donations to create care packages to send to deployed troops.
2) Write Letters
Another great way to show your appreciation is to write thank you letters to our veteran community. This is a great activity to do with your friends and family members. Gather your loved ones and throw a letter-writing party. Once all the letters are complete, send them to the nearest military installation or VA organization. This seemingly small act can show our veterans just how grateful we are.
3) Visit a Veteran
Almost everyone has a family member or friend who has served in the Armed Forces. On Veteran’s Day, make an effort to reach out to them and thank them for their service. If you don’t personally know a veteran, then try visiting a veteran’s hospital. Many patients at VA hospitals do not receive regular visitors. By visiting and offering the gift of conversation and company, you could brighten a veteran’s day.
